The Labour Administration continues to invest heavily in sport in St. Kitts and Nevis. The latest testament to this was the procurement of US$442, 941, in the form of two cheques, from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the construction and fencing of two pavilions, one in St. Peter’s and the other in Verchild’s.
Taiwanese Ambassador, His Excellency John Liu, handed over the cheques to Hon. Rupert Herbert, Parliamentary Representative for the Verchild’s area and the Hon. Cedric Liburd, the Parliamentary Representative for St. Peter’s during a brief ceremony at the Embassy, on July 4th.
Ambassador Liu said his Government recognizes that sport is an important avenue in the development of youth and Taiwan considers it a privilege to be able to assist the local Government in this developmental drive, with the significant donation.
He alluded to the numerous other avenues through which his Government has assisted St. Kitts and Nevis, including health, education, agriculture and information technology and noted that it is highly indicative of the strong diplomatic ties between both countries. ~~Adz:Right~~
Both Ministers applauded Ambassador Liu and his Taiwanese Government for the very significant investment they continue to make toward the continued development of the Federation, especially in the field of sport and note that the local Government is forever grateful for their heavy financial injections.
Taiwan established diplomatic ties with St. Kitts and Nevis since 1983, when the twin island state achieved independence and that relationship has blossomed over the years.
