BASSETERRE, St. Kitts  (June 22) – AFTER winning their first game and losing the second one over a controversial decision, last nightRAMS Village Superstars FC proved that they are the unstoppable force when they trounced SL Horsford’s St. Paul’s FC 3-nil to be crowned champions in the Digicel-sponsored Premier League.

Playing before a capacity crowd at the Warner Park Stadium, the first half was goalless as both teams displayed a very high standard of ball control and excellent passes, but they also squandered a number of scoring opportunities.

Once again at the end of the first half, Digicel held its ‘Kick for Blackberry’ promotion which was won by Lenneil Warner.

On resumption of the game, St. Paul’s launched an all-out attack but met with a solid Village defensive wall.

Not to be outdone, Village retaliated with a strategic offensive as Travis Somersal made an impressive run from the defence, showing speed and agility after picking up a loose ball before firing his shot on goal.

The ball however struck the back of a St. Paul’s defender before settling at the feet of Lawrence Jeffers, who fired his shot home, putting St. Paul’s defence to shame in the 62nd minute.

St. Paul’s at this time were showing signs of frustration and were again punished by Village. Alister Warner pounced on a loose ball in their 18-yard box and, while sliding on his left side, skillfully slammed the ball with his right foot past the goalkeeper in the 85th minute.

With five extra-time minutes added, Village, seemingly not satisfied with their 2-nil margin, launched a relentless attack on St. Paul’s goal.

This attack saw striker Jevon Francis, in the dying minutes of the game, outwitting the full-back and goalkeeper to drive the final nail in St. Paul’s coffin – 3-nil.

After three long years in the wilderness, Village finally regained their title as Premier League Champions and celebrated the victory with a fireworks display.

Village captain Joel Jeffers expressed his feelings on the team’s success, stating that he was extremely happy and proud of his teammates although he could not have played after receiving a red card for misconduct in game two.

“The three cups are well deserved. We fought from the bottom of the table…under the sea, gained the two points needed to be in the Final Four Competition and now we’re crowned champions,” Joel added.

This is RAMS Village Superstars third title for the 2010/2011 season after winning the Easter Cup and the FA Cup on Wednesday, June 1.
