Calamity was averted and the sheer joy of a momentous occasion prevailed as students, parents, teachers and wellwishers attending the 17th annual Sandy Point Primary School graduation ceremony were left in darkness, as the electricity supply in the area was disrupted right in the midst of the Prize-giving ceremony.

Even though those in the audience, including a number of persons from the corporate community, were caught unawares, the somber mood of the activity was preserved as the organizers quickly adjusted.
However, some aspects of the Prize-giving ceremony had to be postponed because of the incident.
Many parents and guardians vocally expressed their displeasure with the power outage, especially as it was later found out that the power loss was as result of load shedding.
They were of the view that if the public was duly notified about the load-shedding process, relevant arrangements could have been made for an alternative power source.

An announcement has since been made, noting that a schedule for the load shedding would be made available shortly.
