Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 12, 2007): A recently held collaborative venture between the UNESCO Youth Path Project and the Sail Caribbean Teen Adventure Camp was a resounding success.
Director of the UNESCO National Commission Antonio Maynard said he was pleased with the activity’s turn out. Local youth welcomed teenagers taking part in the Caribbean Sail Adventure to assist them in the Queenie’s Well Restoration Project which is a cultural preservation project being undertaken by Youth Path.
This interaction helped to bridge the gap between what would otherwise be seen as two culturally diverse groups as they came together to achieve the same objective. The Caribbean Sail Youths come from Carriacou and Eleuthera.
Youth Path is a project which seeks to activate youths from rural communities to play an active role in the development of their society while equipping them with employable skills.
Sail Caribbean Teen Camp is a mostly sea based programme in which young participants travel from island to island to be empowered with new skills, confidence and new friends. It also has a strong community, conservation and culture focus.
While on Island the group also visited other historical and educational sights including the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, Black Rocks, and Warner Park among others.
The Sail Caribbean Team will make two additional visits to St. Kitts this summer.~~Adz:Right~~
