    The Government of South Korea has donated 12 Lap Tops and US$24,000 to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    The handing over ceremony took place at the Parliamentary Lounge at Government Headquarters, on Friday morning, July 13th.
    His Excellency Lin Byung-Taik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, based in the Dominican Republic, made the presentation.
    The Lap Tops will be distributed among Government offices, while the US$24, 000 will used to purchase furniture for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Ambassador Lin noted that noted that St. Kitts and Nevis has been a strong ally with South Korea since the twin island stat achieved its independence in 1983 and every effort is being taken to ensure that the diplomatic relations blossom even more.

    The relations with St. Kitts and Nevis are also reflective of the Korean Government’s interest in working with CARICOM.

     

    The Ambassador also disclosed that while he is in St. Kitts and Nevis he will have discussions with the Prime Minister of the twin island state, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas, in relation to the establishment of several developmental programmes with regards to training in Information Technology and Agriculture, for locals.
    Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, accepted the donations on behalf of the Government and indicated that the Korean’s generosity is testimony to the ever growing diplomatic ties between the two countries.

    Minister Harris also indicated that the Korean Government is also committed to donating some generators, later this year, which will be utilized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

    The Foreign Affairs Minister also revealed that the Korean Ambassador was also on a mission to confirm the support of St. Kitts and Nevis and CARICOM, in its bid to host the International Exhibition, in Yeosu in 2012. St. Kitts and Nevis and CARICOM have already pledged their support.

     

    This is not the first time that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has lobbied in support of the Korean Government and people.

     

    Several years ago the twin island state lobbied for Korea to be admitted to the International Civil Aviation Organization.

    Korea has emerged as a critical player in global technology and their goodwill has resulted in significant advancement for their country. As a matter of fact the United Nations Secretary General, His Excellency Ban Ki Moon, is from South Korea.
