Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 22, 2004): Officials at the Department of Youth’s Summer Residential Camp said the educational event is progressing smoothly.
The 160 participating campers have been kept busy with art and craft, computer, drumming and other culturally-related activities.
Regional integration is being stressed at the camp.
As such, each of the 15 dorms have being named after a CARICOM country.
Last night the group participated in a camp theme song competition.
Dorm St. Kitts and Nevis narrowly edged out dorm Trinidad and Tobago and dorm Bahamas to win the contest.
The all-male group promoted unity in their lyrics as they rocked to Gloria Gaynor’s 80's hit “I Will Survive.”
Camp Director Dave Connor said he felt very proud of the kids. “They are having a lot of fun and learning at the same time. This is exactly what we try to do every year.”

Mr. Connor had high praise for the sponsors particularly the main contributors Ian Naismith and Renee DiGulio of the Naismith Foundation.
“They have partnered with the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport for many years and we are grateful for their continued dedication,” Connor stressed.
He noted that despite personal challenges, the Chicago-based couple has embraced the less fortunate in society and treat them with love and kindness.
Tomorrow evening, the campers will dine at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort at a banquet.
After, they will engage in a special question and answer segment dubbed “Kidz Talk” with government officials and other dignitaries.
The following day a march through the streets of Basseterre will be held at 9:00 a.m.
