What can we do?

By: Lorna Callender, SKNVibes

Basseterre St.Kitts, June 28th 2011 - This morning (Tuesday June 28) all thoughts in St. Kitts are going to the plight of three persons now fighting for their lives at the JNF hospital and prayers are also  going up for the one who has already succumbed to the outrageous bout of shooting that occurred last night in Fiennes avenue.

There is the wringing of hands, and the strange feeling of helplessness and fear that invades a people when they find themselves in a situation about which they feel they can do nothing.

Even before this last murder, many were heard openly stating that they would not tell the police what they know and were naming persons who had lost their lives from telling or threatening to tell.

Even the surgeon at the hospital is amazed that the wounded in the midst of their pain would say nothing.

Drive-by shootings are no respecter of persons.  Passers-by are as likely to be shot as the persons targeted and no one knows who is being targeted.
    WHAT CAN WE DO?

We know that offering sympathy to the families is not enough.  We need short term solutions while we work on the medium and long term ones.

How can we as individuals save our country?  How can we stand by and watch our country disintegrate?  It is becoming impossible to sit still while we wait for news of the next murder and the next and the next.

If any of you reading this  belongs to a gang and you are engaging in this killing rampage, sit by yourself for a while – take time to be quiet- remember LIFE IS SACRED –

You do not have the power to give life.  Why then have you given yourself the power to take it?  You are taking the souls of children and parents when you take a life.  For generations, children and a society will be changed negatively because of your act.

What can we do for you? Find a way to change your life and bring glory to your country instead of pain.  YOU can do it!  YES, you can. YOU can. You can.....

We invite readers to write in to our Comments section below this article.  Tell  us what you think can solve our situation without just blaming this person or that group of persons.  What can we do now?
“I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing- 1 Tim 2:8”
