Sir Eustace being Knighted on Independence Day 2003
St. John's: 07/26/04... A prominent St. John's businessman, Sir Eustace B. Francis KCN, OD has been appointed Deputy Governor General of the twin island unitary state of Antigua and Barbuda. His appointment took effect as of June 26, 2004.
The 65-year-old, Sagittarian was born on the 21st of December, 1938 on Cotton Estate, a settlement just outside the country's first town, Parham. He is a graduate of the Antigua Grammar School, married and has two children. He holds strongly to the principles of Christianity and is a devout Anglican.
Sir Eustace is the founder and Managing Director of the internationally known Francis Trading Agency Ltd, a shipping concern established on April 17, 1972 which provides services in Cargo & Cruise Ship Agency, Stevedores Contracts, Custom Brokerage and Freight Forwarding. He is also the Chairman of the ABI Financial Group, Chairman of the newly formed National Economic & Social Council, Honorary Norwegian Consul and Treasurer of the St. John's Anglican Cathedral Parish.

Due to his outstanding performance in the field of business and commerce he has received several awards both nationally and internationally. These include: Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation - KCN and the Order of Distinction - OD. Internationally he is a JCI Senator of Jaycees International, a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and holds the Order of Merit from the Norwegian Government.

Sir Eustace, who shies away from the glaring lights of the media is a past President of the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce and Industry and past President of the Antigua Jaycees.

Speaking in a Newsline1 exclusive, Sir Eustace said he was indeed honoured yet humbled by his appointment and expressed the hope that his tenure will be one that will inspire and motivate the people of Antigua and Barbuda to be the best that they can be for their nation.

"I have always guided my life on a creed I learnt from the Jaycees when I joined that organization at the age of 18 years. It says, I work with honour and not for honour," the distinguished Antiguan said.
During the interview, Sir Eustace expressed deep concern over the future of the youths of Antigua and Barbuda. In reminiscing on his childhood days he spoke of the many activities young people were engaged in during and after school. "Today the young people have too much free time on their hands and we are also faced with a situation where children are now parenting children, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers are busy in the work place and therefore the children are left unsupervised. Then again, we have become a people of materialism, our values are not what they used to be," he said.
Sir Eustace replaces Ms. Yvonne Maginley who served in that capacity for the past five years.
