Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 29, 2004): Small Islands Voice continues its programme of youth empowerment by its role in enabling a young person to attend the Wider Caribbean Environmental Youth Programme.

Ifuela Esdaille of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Trevor Orchard representing the St. Christopher Heritage Society and Chantel Pemberton, who was solicited by SIV, will represent the Federation.

The July 29 to August 5 event is being held at the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station in St. John’s, USVI. The participants are students between the ages of 12 to 17 years.

The environmental education programme will focus on natural history, ecology and conservation on Caribbean islands. This year’s theme is water resources. Attendees will engage in hiking, swimming and snorkeling as well as lectures. The participants will also discuss critical issues amongst themselves.

The St. Kitts Tourism Authority funded the participation of the local representatives.

The workshop is sponsored by American Airlines, Clean Islands International, the Caribbean Hotel Association and its environmental division, the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism.
