St. Kitts Entertainment Weekend review (July 4th, 2011)

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE past weekend was a rainy one which caused many people’s plans to be spoilt or slightly adjusted but for others, the rain did not stop them.

On Friday the Irishtown Primary School’s Community Development and Enhancement Princess Pageant was postponed to Saturday due to inclement weather conditions.

However, the Frigate Bay Strip still managed to have a good turnout with people who were determined not to let their weekend go to waste.

On Saturday the school’s contestants finally got their time to shine and Tiandra Francis was crowned Irishtown Primary School’s Community Development and Enhancement Princess, after winning in two segments and outdoing four other contestants.

At the end of the show one mother was so disturbed and upset that her daughter did not place she began ‘cussing’ and making libellous statements about the principal. The mother also stated that her daughter would not take part in anything else for the school not even graduation.

Later that night Ma Pau saw a capacity crowd for Unstoppable Sound’s Tribute To Fallen Soldiers dance party.

As the sounds of ‘remembrance songs’ to lost love ones echoed through the walls of the venue, many people were seen flashing lighters and phones in the air as a sign of tribute to individuals who had passed on.

On Sunday the Fireflies Dance School held its 6th anniversary recital at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the ECCB. The young dancers showcased some superb performances in each category of the show which was dubbed ‘Playtime’.

The various performances depicted various games children play, from cards to outdoor games such as ‘the dog and bone’.

One of the highlights of the event was the ‘Daddy and daughter’ dance where a number of fathers did a routine dance then were joined by their daughters.

The event saw a full house and after the show many patrons expressed how pleased they were with the performances and commended the organisers.
