BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 31ST 2007 (CUOPM) The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College Bill, which will establish the tertiary level educational institution as a corporate body, was discussed during the Cabinet Meeting on Monday.

Minister of State for Information, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty said that the Bill, which had its first reading at the last sitting of the National Assembly, will provide for an autonomous body controlled by its own board of directors who will make independent decisions about the development of the college.www.gov.kn under the Ministry of Education section.

"This plan of making the CFB College autonomous is consistent with government’s long-term goal to develop the college into a full tertiary level institution that will offer full degree programmes to citizens and residents of the Federation at a cost affordable to most," said Minister Carty.

The College was established in the 1960’s as a Technical College and Teachers College, to bring post-secondary education to the people of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla.In 1988, the institution evolved into the College of Further Education through the amalgamation of the Teachers’ College, the Technical College, the School of Nursing and the Sixth Form of the Basseterre High School.  ~~Adz:Right~~

In 1997, ten years ago, the College of Further Education was re-named the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in honour of a former distinguished Minister of Education.

"Cabinet believes that such a historic piece of legislation should benefit from the input of the wider community and therefore solicits feedback on the bill before its second and third readings in Parliament," said Minister Carty.
He said a copy of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College Bill is available for public scrutiny at
