DJ Ras Benjie dies from multiple gunshot wounds

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER Basseterre High School teacher and Horticulturist Brian ‘DJ Ras Benjie’ Farrell of Shadwell Estate died this afternoon (July 4) following a shooting incident in Edwards Lane, New Ponds Site.

     

    According to eyewitness report, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Farrell had exited his vehicle and was about to enter his garden in Edwards Lane, New Ponds Site when a masked gunman emerged from a clump of bushes and started firing shots at him.

     

    “Benjie had just come out of his pick-up and was about to go into his garden when a masked man came out from a yard that is clustered with tall grasses and small trees and started firing shots at him.

     

    “On hearing the first shot and seeing that the masked man was shooting in his direction, Benjie began to run in the direction of Wellington Road. However, the gunman chased after him firing shots all the while.

     

    “He fired about 10 shots and I saw Benjie fell to the ground. After the gunman fled the scene, an ambulance came and transported him to the JNF Hospital. But before the ambulance came to the scene, I took a quick look at Benjie lying on the ground and noticed that he was shot twice in the bum, once in the back and he was bleeding profusely,” the eyewitness said on condition of anonymity.

     

    On Arrival at the scene, SKNVibes observed two police officers combing the area in search of items of evidential value. They were later joined by members of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Special Services Unit.

     

    This media house went to the hospital where it was learnt that Farrell succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival there.

     

    Brian ‘DJ Benjie’ Farrell’s death has taken the number of homicides recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year to 17; 15 on St. Kitts and two on Nevis.
