The United National Empowerment Party is of the firm view that the
Government of the Federation is determined to win the next general elections by
any means necessary. What is insidious about the Governments ambition is that
the Government is prepared to undermine the Constitution of St. Kitts and
Nevis to achieve this. ~~Adz:Right~~
The multiplicity of committees set up to deal with Electoral Reform is geared to
blur transparency and to confuse the ordinary elector in St. Kitts and Nevis.
For example - the so called Boundaries Technical Committee set up by the
Government is a sham. It seeks to usurp the functions of the Constituency
Boundaries Commission provided for under Section 49 of the Constitution
of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The function of the Constituency Boundaries Commission which must be
established under the Constitution is to review the number and boundaries
of the Constitution into which St. Christopher and Nevis should be divided.
Government is not to subvert the Constitution by any colorable device.
One of Government’s primary functions is to uphold the Constitution. The
Constitution is the supreme law of the land.
Unconstitutional increase in the number of constituencies and or
unconstitutional realignment of the boundaries will not be permitted in St.
Kitts and Nevis.
