Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 30, 2004): The Electricity Supply Improvement Project (ESIP) is continuing the important task of laying underground power cables.
An official explained that the project moves to a new area on September 20. The new lines will be laid at the Cable TV Ground Station compound and Hospital Road and run in a south westerly direction along the southern side of the SSMC Railway Track until it reaches Buckley’s Estate yard.
At this point the new 240 mm cu PILCSWA 11, 000 volt electricity power cable will cross underneath the SSMC Railway track and will continue to run south westerly along the mountainside, until it reaches West Farm.
It will then cross beneath the track and maintain a south westerly heading as it runs through Boyd’s and Trinity Village until it reaches Challengers Village Type II Substation.
The official added that all reasonable precautions will be taken to ensure public safety. However, all are advised to exercise extreme caution when traversing areas in which ESIP Civil Works and Cable laying Works are in progress.
