CCM releases list of allegedly transferred voters registered in St. Kitts

Hon. Mark Brantley - Deputy Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement

Brantley appeals to Kittitians not to vote in Nevis

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH just five days remaining before Nevisians and residents on that island go to the polls, the executive body of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) are crying foul and have released a list with names of persons registered in St. Kitts who have been allegedly transferred to Nevis.

Yesterday (July 5), Calypso Reggie was heard in the streets of Basseterre and its environs warning the people of St. Kitts to stay out of Nevis’ political affairs.

In his usual satirical manner when plying his trade, Calypso Reggie said, “On Monday, July 11 there will be an election in Nevis for Nevisians and for people genuinely living in Nevis. Not for you and me.

“Don’t let any Nevis politician or his friend get you into trouble with the law or otherwise, and when done dog better than you. It’s bad enough some of you have allowed your names to go on the Voters’ List. It would be even worse if you take the boat ride, take the money and then take the jail, or whatever other bitter bush you might have to eat after that, just to help one party or the other in Nevis win. You ain’t in dat! Stay outa dis!

“On July 11, Kittitians must stay in St. Kitts and respect the people of Nevis by allowing Nevisians to elect the government of their choice. Don’t tangle up yourselves in the wickedness and the lawlessness of greediness of power hungry politicians. Don’t let them make a pappy show outta you.”

SKNVibes subsequently learnt that what Calypso Reggie had announced was a paid political advertisement.

Consequently this media house contacted CCM’s Deputy Leader Hon. Mark Brantley, who made a clarion call for those engaged or about to be engaged in the alleged unlawful activity to desist.

“We have been consistent that the illegal transfer of voters from St. Kitts to Nevis is completely improper and that we can see no reason why people who live in St. Kitts, and continue to live in St. Kitts, will wish to come to Nevis to try and decide who or which party will govern Nevis.

“I am appealing to our brothers and sisters in St. Kitts to do what is right and not to allow themselves to be embroiled in the politics and expose themselves to potential legal difficulty.

“One of the things I have learnt in this politics is that a lot of people who would encourage you to be involved in this form of illegality are not themselves doing it; and if you are caught they will not be there to defend you.

“So, I am appealing to the good people of St. Kitts…our brothers and sisters over there, not to allow themselves to become embroiled in this activity which is unlawful and exposes them to possible criminal sanctions,” Brantley said.
