“This is my small contribution to the development of my country Nevis. I am forever mindful of the words of the former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt who said ‘Our progress as a nation can be no greater than swifter than our progress in education’. Traditionally, we have seen the provision of education and educational opportunities as jobs solely from government.
“The Daniel Family Foundation then marks new day where citizens of this country join the government to increase educational opportunities for the people of God’s favorite country, Nevis. My prayer is that all families and interest groups will take the lead of the Daniel family and either contribute to the foundation or start other initiatives to increase the human resource potential of our country’s youth”, Daniel junior.
Also sharing these sentiments was Mr. Hastings Daniel who further shed light on the projected functions of the Daniel Foundation as well as the events which led up to its establishment.

“On this auspicious date we have bloomed a flower right here at Cox Beaumont, our Nazareth. It is intended to be one such flower that will bloom throughout the years as a private charity founded on the highest ideals of education, enterprise and community enhancement through strong family heritage.

“The immediate family of the Daniels includes the seven surviving children of the union between Doris Corsina Hendrickson and Nelson Cornelius Daniel who departed this life on May 21st, 1971 and January 21st, 1978 respectively. They were helped in parenting and raising us in very large measure by a lady whom we still regard as the best grandmother the world has ever seen the beautiful Claudine Elizabeth Hendrickson also known as China”, affectionately noted Daniel senior.
Several students were honored for their dedication to their Test of Standards Examinations and were awarded scholarships of $500 ECD which Daniel senior noted are renewable annually based on outstanding academic achievement and good behavior.
The Daniel Family Foundation was the brainchild of Deputy Premier Hon. Hensley Daniel who further established the Daniel family’s commitment to health care, education and public service while encouraging the honorees to use the award as a way forward.
“We need more people to succeed at secondary level in order to help us meet the challenges of an ever changing world. We are passing on these things and we cannot go forward without the development of our people. This foundation is our direct contribution building the nation and shaping the society. It is a tangible effort in breaking the cycle of dependency.
“When we launched the foundation we saw it as exactly that; a foundation upon which we will build other things. We expect to build people to ensure that we provide and develop the type of young people of which this country can be very proud. The charge for you students is to see this contribution as a way to help you go forward. ”, urged Deputy Premier Hon. Hensley Daniel in closing.
