    BRADES, Montserrat July 7th, 2011 – Chief Minister, the Hon. Reuben Meade said Thursday that the Government is prepared to start court proceedings against persons who have outstanding income tax payments.

     

    One this two month grace period is over, we are ready to take people to court,” the chief minister, who also is the Minister of Finance said.

     

    A tax negotiator has been hired to encourage persons owing taxes to work out payment plans that can help to bring in the $22 million in monies owed to the government treasury.

     

    Persons are being urged to contact the Inland Revenue Department to settle their arrears or make arrangements for repayment by calling 491-2463 or 491-3211.

     

     “All persons concerned are advised to capitalize on this final opportunity to settle their outstanding Income Tax arrears,” a community announcement says. After August 31, 2011, the Inland Revenue will be launching court cases against debtors.
