BASSETERRE, St Kitts, 8th July 2011 - Chief Minister of Montserrat the Honourable Reuben T Meade will assume chairmanship of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) following the official Handing Over Ceremony, which will take place on Friday, 15 July at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
The Monetary Council is the highest decision making authority of the ECCB. It comprises the eight Ministers for Finance from the ECCB member countries. Chief Minister Meade will take over from the outgoing Chairman, the Honourable Nazim Burke, Council Member for Grenada.
Chairmanship of the ECCB Monetary Council is rotated alphabetically each year among the member countries. The Council Member for Montserrat will serve as Chairman until July 2012 when the chairmanship will be handed over to the member for St Kitts and Nevis.
The Handing Over Ceremony will precede the 70th meeting of the Monetary Council which will convene in the Conference Room of the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
