No reported incident on Nevis’ Polling Day

Constituents line up to cast their ballot
By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – SUPPORTERS of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) turned out in their numbers today (July 11) to elect the party that will govern them for the next five years.

Although the island’s Polling Day can be said to be incident free, many individuals who attempted to vote were told that their names were not on the Voters’ List even though they were in possession of voters’ identification cards.

This had caused a number of executives members of the CCM to voice their concerns, noting that win or lose the party would be filing an election petition.

One executive member said, “It is clear to see that the NRP is behind this atrocity. They have disenfranchised many voters who they strongly believe are supporters of our party. If they were genuinely interested in the disenfranchisement of those voters, why didn’t they object to the removal of their names from the list? Instead, they gloated over the judge’s decision on Friday and have padded St. James, St. Paul’s and who knows where else with people from St. Kitts.”

It was reported that a number of known Kittitians, who never lived on Nevis, were seen casting their votes at the Ivor Walters Primary School and other polling stations in Mark Brantley’s Constituency.

This publication was however unable to confirm this allegation because all constituents who voted were in possession of voters’ identification cards and their names were on the Voters’ List.

In their final political rally last night, both parties had told their supporters that they were confident of victory.

Tonight, however, at the time of posting, Robelto Hector and Joseph Parry of the NRP have retained their seats while Vance Amory of the CCM has done the same in his Constituency.
