Good Evening, fellow Nevisians, On Monday, 27 August a bi- election was held on Nevis for the Federal seat in the Federal Parliament which was left by the deceased Hon. Malcolm Guishard. The outcome of that election is well known, the Hon. Mark Brantley won that seat over the Hon. Hensley Daniel who will continue to serve in the Nevis House of Assembly and in the Nevis Government, Early this morning, I spoke to his mother and I congratulated him on his victory. It was a hard fought fight between the two political parties and we understand what the situation is and what we have to do for the future.

There was a number of incidents that alarmed me especially the work of the special forces, which came over from St.Kitts, to my mind they came to Nevis to ensure that the peace was kept and we had a fair election, but it seems to me that they had other agenda and I am disturbed that they ended up harassing a number of activists of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) in the Brown Hill area. Certainly, I would like an explanation and my government would like and explanation because it makes us uneasy in security personal and otherwise.

I wish to inform the people of Nevis that the NRP continues to govern Nevis, our term is for five years and we have only served one up to this point. Let me assure you we are pretty confident not only that we serve out the five year term but that we will do exceedingly well for the peoples agenda which you gave us a mandate on the July 10, 2006 will be carried on completely. I am pleased to remind you that yesterday. I also participated in a meeting for teachers on the commencement of the new school year. There theme was, “Empowering people and affecting change through training.” A matter of empowerment is our main focus as we educate and train and provide jobs for our people, investment in hotel development, in telecommunications and information technology. 

~~Adz:Right~~ I am pleased to inform the people of this country that the AMMAN group has shown an interest in investments in Nevis. One of the leading hotels in the whole world is in interested in negotiating and to involve themselves in Nevis. In fact, Nevis is quickly becoming the leading destination at the Eastern Caribbean and I am very proud of that. I must also tell you that the people of Newfound will be visiting here shortly, for us to discuss the hotel development that will take place in the near future. There are other matters that we are discussing and from time to time we will come to you and inform you of their success on their progress.

After a period of one year some people feel that they do not have to respect the government of Nevis or the government authority. They feel like they can do as they like I wish to tell them that they must not take conciliation for weakness nor healing for lack of conviction. I am stating now, that we the NRP government are obligated to make a number of changes over the next few months. Our security and personal security to ensure the programs of government are implemented efficiently and speedily.

Let me say this. Those who choose to work with us will have the fullest cooperation and those who choose to do otherwise will have to understand that they can not keep us back. I must say to the people of Nevis that I congratulate them on their behaviour yesterday. There was not one serious incident and this is an indication that the people of Nevis are mature and they understand what politics and campaigning is about. I only hope other persons will credit us with this understanding of good behaviour and there is no interference of outside forces or sources. I must say to you the people of Nevis, once again thank you for voting for the Nevis Reformation Party. Thank you for supporting the party last year. Thank you for the many calls I have received today and we will continue to work on your behalf and continue to implement the people’s agenda.
