(Basseterre; St. Kitts): Joy Carr, who has been a Pharmacist at the City Drug Store for seven years, was the proud recipient of the Caribbean Community Pharmacist of Distinction Award.

Carr received the award last night, Thursday, August 30 at the St. Kitts-Nevis Association of Pharmacists’ (SKNAP) general meeting.

Rohan Claxton of the Medical Centre Pharmacy based in Nevis is the vice president of the SKNAP and also an executive member of the Caribbean Pharmacist Association (CAP).

Claxton said that he nominated Carr while attending the CAP Conference in the Cayman Islands earlier this month.

The award is given to a Caribbean Pharmacist who in the opinion of his or her peers has served the community and provided the highest level of Pharmacy care.

Last year’s recipient was Pamela Townsend of Trinidad and Tobago.

Carr who seemed surprised and overwhelmed by the award said that she was lost for words but very humbled by the award.

President of SKNAP, Ericson France and Pharmacist at the Joseph N. France Hospital described Carr as a self-less person who normally gives 100 per cent.

“Pharmacy is a noble profession and the people who do it has a love for wanting to help people and Mrs. Carr has a pleasant personality and I’m not surprised that she won the award,” he said.

France said that their association has benefited from Carr’s expertise and said that the association is better off with her input and ended his remarks by congratulating her on behalf of the association.

The association which was started in March 2004 was successful in hosting the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists Conference at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott last year.

The SKNAP also hopes to plan a week of activities before the year ends to make their presence more known in the Federation.
