BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEXT Saturday (July 23) at Carnival Village 10 beauties from around the Caribbean will compete in one half of the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant, which is being held in two separate shows.

In the first part of the show, to be held in St. Kitts, contestants will make three appearances – the Promotional Speech done in Ambassadorial Wear and the One Piece and Two Piece Swimsuit parade.

Eleven countries have confirmed their intention to compete; they are: Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Dominica, Nevis, Montserrat, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Kitts, Guyana, Anguilla and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The pageant will also feature a number of side show performances to add to the delight of the event. The Okolo Dance Theatre and music by the Fourplay Band will be part of the entertainment package.

Speaking with Randy Jeffers, Owner of the pageant, he indicated that this would be a sizzling swimsuit competition and the only show of its kind.

“I wanted to make the pageant different to others so I decided to extend it to St. Kitts and have the contestants do two swimsuits. This way they also get to experience the two islands.” He added

Jeffers said the contestants would be launched at Circus Grill Garden on Friday, July 22 where they will introduce themselves and mingle in public.

On the following Sunday the contestants will head back over to Nevis for a Church Service and the Premier’s Cocktail.

They will then prepare for the second part of the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant which takes place at the Cultural Complex on Monday, July 25. The contestants will conclude the contest with Talent, Evening Wear and Interview to determine who will be the new queen.

This is the first time the pageant is being held in this format and according to Pageant Chairperson Hazel Francis, in a press release, the decision was made in keeping with the theme ‘Bridging the Gap, One Caribbean, One People’ and the organisers quest to promote “two islands, one paradise”.

The pageant is part of the 2011 Nevis Culturama celebrations and is in its 6th staging. The reigning queen hails from Anguilla.
