    ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, July 12th, 2011 -The Virgin Islands is gearing up to host the Pre-Overseas Territories and Consultative Council (OTCC) Meeting for Premiers, Chief Ministers and territory leaders from the United Kingdom (UK) Overseas Territories (OTs) from July 22 to 24 on Scrub Island.
     

     

    Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE will chair the meeting. – He told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the meeting is an opportunity for leaders to plan the agenda and produce a list of areas for development cooperation ahead of the annual OTCC meeting in London in November.

     

    He said, “This meeting allows us to consult with each other on various matters of mutual interest,” adding, “We also voice support for each other in certain areas of concern where we do not necessarily share common interests.”

     

    Premier O’Neal added that he is looking forward to a dynamic and fruitful information sharing session focused on the issues, challenges and successes of the OTs.

     

    Fourteen member countries comprise the British Overseas Territories. The OT leaders who are not able to attend the meeting will contribute via telephone or video conference.

     

    The Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) is a forum for discussion of key policy issues between British Ministers and Heads of Overseas Territories’ and was established as a result of the 1999 White Paper Partnership for Progress and Prosperity.
