    ROADTOWN Tortola,BVI, July 13th, 2011 - As the 2011 Virgin Gorda Summer Jam approaches there is buzz of excitement within the BVI as many teams have all expressed confidence of being this year’s winner. This year’s tournament commences on the 13th of August in three divisions and according to one of its major sponsor’s, Delta Petroleum Limited, it would be action packed, fun and exciting for all.

     

    It was pointed out that the three categories that would be contested this year are; Division C for ages 7-12; Division B, 13- 17 and Division A 17 and over, respectively. Regional General Manger of Delta Petroleum Limited, Bevis Sylvester commented on the event by saying that he too is buzzing with excitement.

     

    He noted that the Summer Jam is usually an eagerly awaited event noting that it provides a platform for the participants to be engaged in a positive activities, while the fans are allowed an opportunity to be entertained and to support their favourite team.“

     

    This event is one that is geared at enhancing the lives of our young people through various ways and I am satisfied with the overwhelming response that Summer Jam continues to receive,” he said. The RGM pointed out that with so many social ills plaguing society he firmly believes  that Summer Jam 2011 can and would assist in helping to charter the positive energies of young people in a more productive and beneficial ways.

     

    He urged the youths to come out and be part of what he dubbed as a life changing event. “Summer Jam is an event that all young people should come out to whether it be as a player or just a fan,” he stressed.

     

    Trevor Stevents, better known as ‘West’, pointed out that a motorcade would be held starting from 3 pm on 13th August, while the rules that would be used during this year’s competition have been adopted from the BVI Basketball Federation.  He also disclosed that each player has been required to submit a full registration packet as part of the new rules in this year’s competition.

     

    The RGM also met with the various teams competing along with their coaches and explained his expectation for this year’s competition. He urged them to allow good sportsmanship to be their daily commitment, adding that he trusts that through them the competition can achieve its set objectives.

     

    He told all coaches and players that the fans will come out and expect a high level of professional basketball urging them to remember that friendships and good relationships should be forged despite the results of the tournament.

     

    Meanwhile, Regional Organisational Manager Chaunci Cline pointed out that NAGICO Insurances would be providing medical coverage during the tournament this year.  She said that with medical coverage being provided by NAGICO it meant that each player on court will be insured, which safety continue to be the leagues priority. 

     

    “It is known that whenever Delta Petroleum invests into an event we invest properly and significantly and therefore investing in Summer Jam we have to assure ensured that everything is put in place for the benefit and success of all involved ,” Cline said.

     

    “We are definitely committed to youth and community enhancement and with the innovative and dynamic leadership being provided by our Regional General Manager Bevis Sylvester I would like to assure the public that Delta Petroleum would continue giving back to the public as without them then there would not be a company,” she declared.

     

    Cline pointed out that the opening ceremony would begin at 6:30 after the motorcade would have ended adding that the Premier, Hon Ralph O Neal and Minister of Education, Andrew Fahie are expected to witness this year’s opening ceremony.

     

    The winners of last year’s tournament were; Division A, Set It Off; while GoGetters took the title for Division B; and in Division C,Young Talent was unstoppable. The VG Basketball Association along with Delta Petroleum encourages everyone to catch the Summer Jam Fever…
