BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRIME MINISTER Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has offered condolences to the family of the late Keyon Welcome who was the recent victim of a drowning incident.

The unfortunate incident took place on Sunday (July 10) while the seven-year-old was at Oualie Beach with relatives.

He reportedly encountered difficulty after he had gone to sea-bath.

The child was reportedly pulled from the water and carried to shore where attempts were made to resuscitate him, but he however lost the battle for his life upon arrival at the Alexandra Hospital.

Yesterday (July 11), while speaking at on his weekly radio programme, “Ask the PM”, Dr. Douglas expressed sympathy on behalf of the government which he leads and on his own behalf to those who are left to mourn Keyon’s departure.

“I would  like to express my sincere sympathy and that of the government to the family of Ermine Queeley, whose seven-year old grandson Keyon Welcome was unable to handle the waters at a local beach and therefore perished last Sunday evening.

“I emphasise that the loss of any life causes great sadness. The ending of a child’s life, the ending of the life of any youth in this country, I know we would all agree, is a tragedy beyond description. Again, our deepest sympathies go out to the various families who have suffered losses in this way,” Dr. Douglas expressed.

Among those left to mourn Keyon’s death are his father George Welcome and his mother Karin Richardson-Welcome.

Keyon will be laid to rest on Friday, July 15 at the Springfield Cemetery following his home-going service at the Rehoboth Apostolic Church on Wigley’s Avenue in Buckley’s Site.
