BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RESIDENTS of St. Kitts and Nevis will, for the first time, be given a chance to participate in a ‘Fine Arts Festival: A Christian Celebration for St. Kitts and Nevis’ which will begin on Thursday, July 21  and ends on Sunday, July 24.

A team of highly-qualified facilitators will be travelling to St. Kitts from Texas to host workshops in Ballet, Choral and Vocal Training, Hand Bells, Children’s Chorus, Instrumental Training and Praise Dance Workshop.

The grand finale will be held on July 24 at the Government House where participants of various workshops will showcase what they have learnt.

Local Coordinator of the event and member of the Antioch Baptist Church which is sponsoring the event, Michael Penny said that the idea came about when the church began talking about starting an orchestra.

Penny explained that following discussions on the idea, he decided to contact the facilitators, some of whom he met 10 years ago at the First Baptist Church in Wichita, Texas while he was a student at the Midwestern University in that state.

He said that in 2001 he had invited a group from the church to come to St. Kitts for the Vacation Bible School.

“I contacted them, ideas started flowing and as a result we have come up with a Christian Fine Arts Festival. They will come and share in the fine arts, and some are coming to paint a portion of the Dr. William Connor School and also be involved in other community activities. There will also be a sports camp for the guys on Saturday afternoon,” Penny said.

He also said that a total of 51 persons would be travelling from Texas to St. Kitts to facilitate the festival.

He said that the workshops are free and would be held on various days and times and that interested persons should call 465-2740 to register.

“Everyone has to register first,” he added.

Penny disclosed that attendees of the vacation Bible School would be marching through the streets of Basseterre on Friday, July 22 which would climax with a rally at the Independence Square.

He said that in the evening of the same day, a concert for the youths would be held at the Dr. William Connor Primary School.

Penny said that invitation is open to the general public and he is beseeching parents to have their children participate in the upcoming events, as the facilitators are looking forward to sharing what they know with them.
