Traffic Warden fined EC$1 000 for disorderly conduct, indecent language

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Traffic Warden (School Crossing Guard) was on Wednesday (July 13) fined EC$1 000 for disorderly conduct and using indecent language in the vicinity of the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court.

Traffic Warden Jasmine James of Stapleton Village appeared before Chief Magistrate Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe and was found guilty on the two charges which were committed in the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, March 3, 2011.

According to the facts read in court, James, who had lost a court battle against her child’s father for an increase in support, was seemingly dissatisfied with the findings and disturbed the subsequent proceedings with loud outbursts.

As a consequence, the Court Orderly escorted her out of the courtroom but she slammed the door while on her way out.

Her disorderly behaviour did not end with her outbursts and action; for she had allegedly uttered a number of expletives outside of the courtroom despite being caution by a police officer who was on duty at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Complex.

James was subsequently arrested and taken to the Basseterre Police Station where she was charged for disorderly conduct and using indecent language.

She was found guilty by Her Worship and fined EC$500 on each count.
