Acting Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor reviews documents at signing ceremony |
Basseterre, St. Kitts (August 12, 2004): Terra Forma Ltd is poised to begin the reconstruction work that will transform Warner Park into a world-class facility.
This was signaled at a signing ceremony held earlier today at the Prime Minister’s Office. Acting Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor signed on behalf of the government, while Valmiki Kempadoo, the Managing Director of Terra Forma Ltd signed for his company.
Mr. Kempadoo said he is honored to be a part of this historic undertaking which will prepare St. Kitts and Nevis to host Cricket World Cup matches in 2007.
“I look forward to providing a first class facility for the people of St. Kitts,” he said, adding that this is a “fantastic opportunity” for the Federation to bring the stadium in line with international standards in the hopes of staging other top sporting events.
Acting Prime Minister Condor noted that the document signing appropriately falls on the start of the third test between the West Indian and English cricket teams and on the eve of the opening of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

He reflected on the road taken to get to this stage of development and paraphrased a West Indian icon David Rudder to describe the importance of the moment. “This thing is not about cricket. In fact, it goes beyond the boundary,” he stressed.
Minister of Sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin witnessed the ceremony on behalf of the government and said, “this was the start of something good.”
“Facilities will only harness greater energies, inspire greater hope and motivate those who have not already produced to move on to (achieve) the international (acclaim) waiting for them,” she said.
The minister explained that the broader redevelopment project includes the construction of a 400-metre athletic track, the football field and a multipurpose facility that will accommodate basketball, volleyball and tennis. She indicated that this will afford excellence to local athletes as they will be in line with international standards.
Minister Henry-Martin thanked Mr. Kempadoo and his team, the members of her ministry, the various sporting organisations and others involved for their cooperation and dedication to the task.
Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Hon. Delano Bart, Permanent Secretary of Sport Lloyd Lazar, Crown Counsel Stephen Hector and Stanley Franks Jr. also attended the brief signing ceremony.
