Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, July 18th 2011 - Ms. Amethyst Nicolette Clyne Straker.  Amethyst, a Class Five student at the Ivan Dawson Primary School was the Valedictorian of the 2011 Graduating Class and the eleventh scholarship recipient.

She received numerous trophies and awards including the Ivan Dawson Memorial Trophy for Valedictorian.

Amethyst enjoys cooking, swimming and snorkeling and would like to become a food critic and pursue a career in Culinary Studies.  She is the daughter of Mr. David Straker and Mrs. Adel Clyne Stout.

In her Valedictory address on July 5th, 2011 Amethyst firstly thanked Jehovah God, parents, guardians, past and present teachers, the Government of the Virgin Islands and the Ministry of Education and Culture.  She admonished her fellow classmates with the following words:

    Proverbs 13:20

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”  She further explained “This teaches us that when we get to high school we are to hang out only with the wise or well mannered schoolmates and not the foolish or wayward ones.

    Proverbs 22:29

“Have you beheld a man skillful in his work?  Before kings is where he will station himself; he will not station himself before commonplace men.”  A person who is skillful will end up in high places.  Throughout high school, please work hard at whatever your skills are and perfect them.

She concluded by stating “It is my PRAYER and HOPE that we continue to use the Bible as a guide to our life trails, where ever that trail may lead.  Never forget where you came from and always keep it real.”

We wish Amethyst God’s blessings as she continues on the road of excellence and much success in her future endeavors.
