A single mothers’ group, attached to the Ministry of Social Development displayed their recently acquired artistic skills in cake making when they displayed the cakes today(Friday) at the Red Cross Building.

According to Sandra Maynard, Director Department of Social Development, the mothers learnt the cake making skill from Joan Roberts within a period of eight weeks.

“A team of women worked together for their own welfare and so they could motivate others,” Maynard said.  The group meets every third Monday of the month.  She said membership was open to other interested single mothers.

Maynard said single mothers were faced with challenges of raising children,“It is difficult raising children.  At times single mothers are unable to relate well to the extended family,” she said the group offered friendship.  We lean on each other.”  She said there times the group members engage in a lot of fun activities.

The aim of the courses offered to group members is to build their skills and to create opportunities through which they could boost their incomes.
