Wilbo… the unique pig

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN enormous pig named Wilbo located at Reggae Beach at the South East Peninsular could easily be named the largest pig in St. Kitts.

SKNVibes came across Wilbo lying in the sand under the shade of a boat while visiting Reggae Beach and learnt that he weights approximately 700 to 800 pounds.

According to one of the workers the pig has never been weighed but students from Ross Veterinarian School has estimated him to be about that heavy.

Another worker who was in the area sat on the pig and began to pet him as he slightly wiggled in comfort in the sand. So not only are pigs good for eating but it also seems as though they can make good pets.

Wilbo is nine-years-old and is said to be an eater and a sleeper.  By looking at him it is hard to believe he can walk but workers say he actually could, and walks around on the sandy beach on a daily basis.

The employee said Wilbo attracts both tourists and locals that are amazed at how huge he is and they often want to rub him and have their pictures taken with him

The man told SKNVibes that the pig was owned along with a number of other piglets by a Spanish guard while they were situated at Turtle Beach.

He said one day this particular one got away from the others and they found him and have had him ever since.

Wilbo is brown with black spots about his body. He has huge teeth and also has tusks sticking out to the sides of his mouth, a feature that is unique for pigs in St. Kitts.
