Sanitation workers attend church service |
(Basseterre; St. Kitts): The Apostolic Faith Mission Church held its annual Sanitation Workers Appreciation Day on Sunday, Sep. 16 with a church service in honour of the workers.
The service was held under the theme “Cleanliness is Godliness” and was also followed with a scrumptious lunch.
The service saluted Environmental Health Workers and Solid Waste Management Workers in St. Kitts and Nevis who prove that action and passion produce positive results.
A packed program was planned with several remarks from the Deputy Prime Minister, Sam Condor, Environmental Health Representative and Solid Waste Management Representative along with Pastor Lincoln Hazell.
Condor said during his speech that there is no single group, more deserving than the sanitary workers who are of the credit and praise showered by visitors and residents who marvel at the superlative cleanliness of the streets, villages, neighborhoods and towns.
“The entire nation will be forever indebted to you,” he said.
He also said that the Apostolic Faith Mission, which over the last several years has single handedly assumed the responsibility of ensuring that there significant role is illuminated under the National spotlight must be highly commended as well.
There was also a message printed in the program by Prime Minister Denzil Douglas who extended greetings and best wishes on behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to all sanitation workers.
“… We are reminded of nature of nation building and of the importance of every task and responsibility in moving our nation forward. Indeed, the work that you do each and every day, is critical to the well-being of the people of this country. We appreciate you and thank you for your commitment,” the Prime Minister stated.
Vance Amory, leader of Concerned Citizens Movement opposition party in Nevis, in his message stated that it is not often that men and women of lowly stature are chosen for great recognition and that the effort of the church is worthy of notice.
Errol Rawlins, the Chief Environmental Health Officer commended the church for their initiative in the acknowledgment and appreciation showed to the Federation Sanitation Workers.
He said that the initiative must have been prompted by the fact that Pastor Hazell was once an Environmental Health Officer.
“And as a result came to the realization that Sanitation Workers do need our support,” he said. “All parties in this endeavor must be acknowledged for their support over the years in ensuring the success that has emanated from this worthwhile initiative.”
