The ill-fated ’Sailor’

Injured driver, passengers rushed to JNF

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ACTIVITIES along the main thoroughfare of Middle Island came to a temporary standstill earlier this afternoon (July 20) when a west-line passenger bus slammed into a concrete house, leaving more than four persons seeking medical attention.

The incident occurred sometime after 4:00 p.m. and involved motor omnibus HA299.

Information surrounding the incident remained sketchy at press time; however, SKNVibes understands that at the time of the incident, the vehicle carried some six individuals, including the driver.

This publication also understands that while the operator of the vehicle – whose name is yet to be ascertained – was driving along the Island’s Main Road in a westerly direction, he encountered a problem and the vehicle collided with the corner of a residential building.

On arrival at the scene, water was seen spewing from the contact point on the house, which suggested that the impact caused one of the pipelines that provides water to the dwelling place to be busted.

According to reports, approximately six individuals were rushed to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital for treatment, including the driver who reportedly suffered broken limbs.

The vehicle was extensively damaged with the front passenger portion crushed, front windscreen shattered, badly twisted front doors and all rear passenger seats thrown in a ‘face down’ position seemingly from the impact.

Sergeant Calvin Amory, acting Head of the Traffic Department, told this media house that he has yet to receive details of the accident as investigations are still ongoing.

Amory however promised that more information would be disseminated as soon as it becomes available.

The vehicle, which bears the word ‘Sailor’ on its front and back, is said to belong to Orville ‘Sailor’ Thompson.
