Group D of CFU Olympic Men’s Qualifying Tournament kicks off tonight

    Teams ready for battle

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE four teams scheduled to battle for supremacy on the football field this weekend in St, Kitts, as part of the CFU Olympic Men’s Qualifying Tournament, have indicated that they are each prepared for the challenge and confident of victory.

     

    The under-23 teams from St. Lucia, Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda and host country St. Kitts and Nevis will compete from this evening (July 21) at the Warner Park to qualify for advancement in the competition.

     

    These four teams comprise Group D, with Group A consisting of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Suriname, and the Cayman Islands; while Group B is made up Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Dominica and Curacao,  with Aruba, Guyana and Cuba constituting Group C.

     

    The double-header games will begin promptly at 6:00 this evening with teams Haiti and Antigua/Barbuda facing off, which will be followed at 8:00 by St. Kitts/Nevis battling against St. Lucia.

     

    The action continues on Saturday (July 23) evening with St. Lucia coming up against Antigua at 6:00 and St. Kitts Nevis coming up against Haiti for the second match of the evening.

     

    The final games of this leg of the tournament are scheduled for Monday (July 25), which will see competition between Antigua/Barbuda and St. Lucia as well as St. Kitts/Nevis and Haiti, as each team will try to show their dominance on the field.

     

    A press conference was held yesterday by the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) during which all visiting teams were welcomed to the Federation and the media brief on preparations for the hosting of the event.

     

    In welcoming the teams to the Federation, President of the National Olympic Committee Alphonso Bridgewater encouraged them to view this tournament as an opportunity to showcase their skills and to build and consolidate friendships.

     

    He also congratulated the SKNFA for seizing the opportunity to host the event.

     

    President of the SKNFA Anthony Johnson said all plans necessary for the smooth hosting of the tournament have been implemented, and he encouraged football fans to patronise and support the event. 

     

    The second leg of the press conference featured representatives of the different teams, all of whom expressed confidence in emerging the Group D victor.
