ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 22th, 2011 – Premiers, Chief Ministers and officials from the United Kingdom Overseas Territories (UKOTs) are currently in the Virgin Islands to attend the Pre-Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) Meeting from July 22-24 on Scrub Island.

Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE will chair the meeting.

Premier O’Neal told the Department of Information and Public Relations the meeting will allow UKOTs leaders to consult with each other on various matters of mutual interest.

“We also voice support for each other in certain areas of concern where we do not necessarily share common interests,” Premier O’Neal said.

There are several activities planned including the scheduled discussion sessions, welcome dinner, opening ceremony, cocktail reception and a tour of Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

Fourteen member countries comprise the British Overseas Territories. The UKOTs leaders who are unable to attend the meeting will participate via teleconference or video conference.

The Pre-Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) Meeting is an opportunity for leaders to plan the agenda, inclusive of areas for development cooperation, ahead of the annual OTCC meeting held in London in November where British ministers and elected heads of overseas territories discuss key policy issues.
