Lightz Out Band releases track for Sugar Mas 2011-2012

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Lightz Out Band has become the trendsetter amongst the Federation’s bands, as they, yesterday, released a song for the 2011-2012 Sugar Mas Carnival celebrations titled ‘Better Gyal’.

The track was penned by Imran Liburd a vocalist of the band and it was released to the public Wednesday, July 20 via various radio stations.

‘Better Gyal’ speaks about a female who looks really good and the singer indicates to her that she is sexy and hot, adding that she must ‘bite’ his girlfriend because  she is the better girl.

According to Seanel Riley, Manager of the Band, ‘Better Gyal’ was recorded at Glenville ‘Jonny’ Leader’s studio in Dieppe Bay.  He said the song was first a chant and because of the positive feedback it was developed into a full song.

He noted that although the song was not mastered, since its release the response has been tremendous, especially from the radio disc jockeys that commended them for releasing a carnival song that early.

Riley stated that one of the reasons they decided to release the track so early is because people often complain about the bands’ late releases.

“Bands need to release tracks earlier and make it an ongoing thing; the bands need to keep pushing their music instead of waiting for carnival to come around,” he stressed.

The Band’s Manager indicated that they currently have two other tracks in the pipeline, one of which should be released in the next three weeks.

As the band continues to make strides in the music industry, they will head to St Eustatius tomorrow and will also be taking part in some of the Nevis Culturama activities.

The members are: Davin Benjamin – vocalist, Stickle Bennett – Keyboardist, Javan Huggins – drummer, Devin Lennon – lead guitarist, Imran Liburd – vocalist, Istivon Richards – vocalist and Revilue Rogers – base guitarist.
