Two convicts, Dinzey Ryan and Gavin Herbert, who escaped lawful custody from the Nevis Prison Farm, on Saturday 22nd September, are now back in custody after they were recaptured on Monday afternoon, September 24th.
According to Superintendent of Prisons, Franklin Dorsett, the two escaped convicts were recaptured after an informant notified the Police that they were hiding in an abandoned house in Charlestown.
Ryan was serving a life sentence for manslaughter and Herbert was serving eight years for robbery.
As a result of the foiled escape, the two convicts now face the charge of escaping lawful custody and the imminent additional jail time to what they are currently serving.

Interestingly, Ryan was described as being a model prisoner, with a record for excellent behaviour. However, the temptation of freedom was seemingly too much for him.
Superintendent Dorsett also took the opportunity to thank members of the general public for their assistance in the recapturing of the two convicts.
It is quite common for well behaved prisoners from Her Majesty’s Prison in Basseterre, St. Kitts, to be sent to the minimum security Prison Farm in Nevis, but the escape attempts may be the trigger for a revisiting of the transfer system.
