    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, July 22nd 2011 - The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, St. Kitts: Engaging several participants from around the Caribbean region, The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), in collaboration with the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC), will be hosting a five day course entitled, Introduction to Occupational Environmental Health and Safety from 25th to 29th July, 2011 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Royal Beach Casino.

     

    Representatives from the port authorities and industries of Anguilla, Barbados, Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Vincent and Suriname, as well as local business will attend the workshop.

     

    The hands on training program will expose safety and health standards through the use of multimedia aids, role play, case studies, work projects and group exercises that will encourage continuous improvement in workplace health and safety. Participants will complete course work in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, Hazard types and Hazard control among other topics.

     

    The premier maritime educational institution for higher learning training in the Caribbean, The Caribbean Maritime Institute located in Jamaica will provide the training. The workshop will be facilitated by Caribbean Maritime Executive Director, Mr. Fritz Pinnock and Caribbean Maritime Institute trainer, Wycliffe Frater. Upon completion of the course, registered participants will be awarded a Certificate of Training.

     

    The Opening Ceremony of the Occupational, Environmental Health and Safety Course will be held on Monday 25th July at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Royal Beach Casino between 8: 15 a.m. - 8: 45 a.m. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Mrs. Patricia Martin and Caribbean Maritime Executive Director, Mr. Fritz Pinnock will be featured speakers at the ceremony.

     

    Port Management Association of the Caribbean is a regional entity that facilitates port training for all the regional ports. It remains the respected voice for advice on port management and port operations in the Caribbean. Current members include Anguilla Air & Sea Port Authority Antigua & Barbuda Port Authority, Barbados Port Inc., British Virgin Islands Ports Authority, Etablissement Portuaire De Saint-Martin, Montserrat Port Authority, Nevis Air & Sea Ports Authority, St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, St. Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority, St. Lucia Marine Terminals Ltd., St. Vincent & The Grenadines Port Authority.
