(Charlestown, Nevis) --- On Thursday evening at about 5:25 p.m. members of the Charlestown Fire Station responded to a call from Delta Petroleum Bulk Station alarming them of a fire which engulfed the premises.

While no one sustained any serious injuries there was extensive damage to the property due to the massive size of the fire. Due to the extent of the flames members of the Vance Amory International Airport Fire Station were called in to aid the fire officer’s efforts.

“On arrival the fire fighters met a section of the station engulfed in flames. They realized that they were overwhelmed by the extent of the fire, so they requested assistance from the fire officers at the Vance Amory Airport Fire hall.

The Airport Fire Station responded to their requests and on arrival they used foam from the fire appliance on the Fire Truck and the fire was contained within several minutes”, said Mr. David Stapleton Fire Sub Station Officer at the Vance Amory Airport Fire Station.

Due to the absence of the fire appliance from the Vance Amory Airport, airport officials were forced to close the entire facility as a safety precaution until the appliance returned at around 7:40 p.m.

As a safety precaution Mr. Stapleton encouraged members of the general public to practice the proper protocol when entering a gas station facility.

“We invite members of the general public to be cautious and follow all safety precautions such as no smoking in the premises of a gas station. Before you start to fuel your vehicle you turn off your engine and basically we advise not to have any open flames in the vicinity of the gas station”, he said conclusively.
