Charlestown Nevis (August 18, 2004) The affordable income-housing programme being conducted by the Nevis Island Government has been deemed a success and as such the demand for more housing is extremely high.
To this end, the government has begun its second phase of the project, at Butlers, where the Nevis Housing and Land Development, which executes and manages the project on behalf of the Nevis Island Administration, has begun clearing lands in that area.
Speaking to the Government Information Services on Tuesday 17, at Butlers, Minister of Lands and Housing, the Hon Malcolm Guishard said that the demand in that area had increased tremendously over the past months with the completion of the first phase at Camps.
He said, “It is our intention to build twelve houses as the first phase in this area and the intention is to continue to build as the demand increases. We have in the region of some fifteen acres of land and it could give us quite a number of houses.”

Minister Guishard pointed out that upon completion of the first phase at Butlers, it was the administration’s intention to construct quite a number of affordable homes in the Brick Kiln area as well.
He also pointed out the achievements of the programme, saying, “We have also completed a first phase at Bath Village, Zion and Prospect giving us a total in excess of 130 homes which have already been distributed to Nevisians.”
