ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 25th, 2011 – The Social Development Department is inviting all residents to participate in its second annual Back-to School Supplies and Uniform Drive.
This initiative, which started last year, aims to collect various school supplies to assist those who qualify in the community.Chief Social Development Officer Mrs. Annie Malone-Frett said the department remains sensitive to the current difficult economic climate, and the need to continue with outreach efforts to parents who have difficulties purchasing school supplies and uniforms, while balancing other financial commitments.
The Chief Social Development Officer said, “With this in mind, we are again seeking assistance from benevolent community members and corporate BVI, who are in a position to donate school supplies for children who may be less fortunate at this time.”
Mrs. Malone-Frett stated that stationery items such as copy books, pens, pencils, book bags, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, and new uniform apparel are welcome.
Interested persons can contact the Social Development Department in Tortola at telephone 494-3431, or visit the office at Botanic Station, next to the Happy Lion Restaurant between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Mondays to Fridays.
In Virgin Gorda, persons can contact the Virgin Gorda Social Development Department at telephone 495-5291, or visit the office which is located upstairs BVI Cable TV in the Valley, Virgin Gorda between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm Mondays to Fridays.
Donations may also be dropped off at the Social Development Department offices on Tortola and Virgin Gorda from July, 25 to August, 26.
The Social Development Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Development is the lead agency charged with promoting the social well-being of the Territory's residents.
