ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 25th, 2011 – Seven public officers were recognised as the Government’s Employees of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2011.

The ceremony, which was held last week at Maria’s by the Sea Conference Room recognised Mrs. Carol Smith, International Finance Centre, Ms. Pearlin Dawson, Department of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Jurnet Glasgow-Matthews, Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly, Ms. Heather James, Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, Mr. Andrew Monsanto, Water and Sewerage Department, Mr. Joseph Caines, Education
Department and Ms. Aisha Hill from the Deputy Governor’s Office. Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal congratulated the honourees.

He said, “I congratulate all of you for winning this important distinction. It is something to prize and look forward to receiving. I sincerely hope this will become an institution of the public service so that employees can have something to look forward to and it also helps to make a better service.”

His Excellency the Governor Mr. Boyd McCleary, CMG, CVO, delivering congratulatory remarks to the honourees shared, “The Employee of the Quarter ceremonies are important in helping to demonstrate the fact that the public service welcomes and pays tribute to those who perform well.

It is not an organisation that necessarily pays the top dollar but it is an organisation, which values its employees and I think one way in which any organisation can be seen in valuing its employees is by offering some kind of reward and recognition.”

Deputy Governor Mrs. V. Inez Archibald also congratulated the honourees. She expressed her pleasure in being at the ceremony and shared with the group a discussion she had with Head of Departments at the Head of Departments Meeting held that morning about the Employee of the Quarter Programme and the importance of it continuing.

Acting Deputy Director of Human Resources Ms. Shavon Henley also delivered congratulatory remarks to the recipients. The honourees in their response expressed their elation on receiving the awards. They said, “We perform our duties daily not looking for public recognition or accolades but simply to provide exemplary service to our clients.

If we take a moment to reflect on what these awards mean to us, we can all agree that being recognised in this way is a major accomplishment.” The honourees shared, “An organisation that recognises that its most valuable resources are the people who work to keep that organisation functioning and says to those employees the exemplary work, dedication and professionalism you possess in carrying out the mandates of your various ministries and departments have not gone unnoticed.

Beyond that, an organisation that publicly recognises those individuals for stellar performance is indeed well on its way to attaining its world class goal.”

“To our co-workers who nominated us for this prestigious award, your kind words will remain with us always as a constant source of motivation. We thank you for seeing in us the qualities fitting of the title of Employee of the Quarter.

We realise that while we are already examples for our fellow co-workers, now more than ever, we have a greater standard to uphold,” the honourees added.

The Employee of the Quarter initiative was launched in 2005 as a means of recognising public officers who exceed expectations and set an example for their fellow public officers.

This service-wide ‘ministerial level’ recognition programme is administered by the Department of Human Resources’ Employee Relations Unit.
