By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

Who will be Miss Caribbean Culture Queen 2011?

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts IN a heated show last night (July 24) at Carnival Village, 10 beauties from across the Caribbean competed in part one of the Miss Caribbean Cultural Queen Pageant in the swimsuit segment of the pageant.

The countries were: Dominica, Nevis, St. Vincent, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, St. Kitts, Montserrat, St. Lucia and Anguilla. Trinidad and Tobago was expected to enter but was unable to attend.

The show was originally scheduled for Saturday night but due to inclement weather conditions it was postponed to Sunday night.

The contestants first hit the stage for the Promotional Speech segment that was done in Ambassadorial Wear. Most participants displayed the colours of their country’s flag and national symbols in their outfits and while some paraded the stage, others danced their way on with excitement.

In their speeches, after introducing themselves they promoted their islands and explained why it would be the ideal vacation spot.

Then came the first swimsuit appearance – the one piece – and the ladies did turn things up a notch.

First was Dominica in a red swimsuit dubbed  ‘Kiss of a Ruby’, while the others were as follows: Nevis – ‘Caribbean Sunrise’, St. Vincent –‘ Fire’, Jamaica – ‘Tropical Bliss’, Guyana – ‘Fire Goddess’, Barbados – ‘Temptress’, St. Kitts – ‘Crimson Rose’, Montserrat – ‘Rumdavoo’, St. Lucia – ‘Spirit of St. Lucia’ and Anguilla in ‘Flamingo Da-la-dong’.

That segment was followed by the electrifying two piece swim wear appearance, which aroused the crowd even more as the contestants strutted their well-toned bodies across the stage.

Although the event was not well attended, the show was of high standard and many patrons said that judging from those three appearances, part two of the pageant, being held on Monday night at the Nevis Cultural Complex, is expected to be quite competitive.

Part two of the pageant takes place at 8:00 p.m. when the contestants will make appearances depicting Talent, Evening Wear and Interview skills to climax the show and determine who will be the 2011 Miss Caribbean Culture Queen and who will be the runners- up.

The results from Sunday night’s proceedings will be carried over to Monday night’s completion and will known  and added to the other segments.

The pageant is in its 6th staging and is part of the Nevis Culturama summer festival but this has been the first year that the pageant has been staged in two parts.
