BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JASON LIDDIE was yesterday convicted for receiving several items from a Trinity home, totaling a value of EC$7, 222.65.

Out of the three charges, he was found not guilty unanimously for the first charge of burglary but was convicted by all 12 jurors for receiving, yesterday, July 25, at the Basseterre High Court.

His third charge of larceny was not read in court.

According to the prosecution, on September 19, 2010, Liddie burglarised the Palmetto Point, Trinity home of Anthony Comry and stole a Toshiba Satellite, one British passport, toothbrush and toothpaste, a magic jack and pen drives, one head phone, three gold chains, backpack, fish oil capsules, one Samsung phone and EC$7.65 all to the total value of EC$7,222.65.

Liddie’s trial trial began on July 20 at the Basseterre High Court before His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas. He was unrepresented.

The prosecution team was led by Crown Counsel Rhonda Nisbett-Browne with the assistance of Crown Counsel O’Neal Simpson.

The prosecution called a total of four witnesses. They were police officers Denroy Pope, and Mitchell Bergan, owner of the home, Anthony Comry and his then girlfriend.

Pope told the court that the accused was seen on a verandah in the area with a black and brown bag in his hand and a blue bag on his back.

He said that a struggle ensued in his attempt to apprehend Liddie, during which the accused tried to take out his service pistol and it went off.

Comry’s girlfriend said that on the night of the incident she left for work and left Comry at home sleeping.

After the prosecution rested its case, Liddie took the stand and told the court that he was coming from an event at Potential Bar on the night in question.

He said the bus stopped in Trinity and he was unable to catch a next bus to go home.

He also told the court that someone was chasing him and he ran from the person because he did not know who they were.

He also denied burglarizing Comry’s home.

Liddie was remanded into custody to await his sentencing on Thursday, July 28 by Justice Thomas.
