     Journalists To Be Trained On Health Reporting

     

     

     

    ~~Adz:Left~~Media In Support of People Living With HIV AIDS (MISOPLWHA) in collaboration with Pan American Health Organisation  (PAHO), UNAIDS and the Ministry of Health, St Kitts will be staging a three days hand on workshop for print and broadcast journalists from the OECS.
     
    According to a senior official of MISOPLWHA applications for the workshop are being invited. The official said that those fortunate to be granted an opportunity to attend this historic health reporting workshop will be able to garner new skills and knowledge, which will boost their ability to report effectively and efficiently on health related issues.
     
    Funding for the workshop has been provided by PAHO, UNAIDS the World Bank and MISOPLWHA. The three days workshop will be held from October 10-12 in St Kitts.  The venue of the workshop will be confirmed.
     
    A number of critical and pertinent issues will be addressed at this very important workshop. Participants will be trained to develop publications, which present attractive and appealing health information to target audiences in a language and style which, they may easily understand. This will be achieved through training writers how to conceptualize story angles, how to investigate these angles and gather information, how to turn that information into news, how to achieve word-economy, and how to write attractive leads;

    The participants will also be exposed to skills that enable them to develop publications which are aesthetically appealing to the target audiences. This will be achieved through training headline writing thus being able to effectively and efficiently write news items with significant appeals.
     
    Fourteen participants will be drawn from various media houses within St Kitts and Nevis; however freelance journalists are also eligible to apply. Full time journalists must have worked with a media house for at least two years while freelance journalists must have been practicing for at least three years. The journalist must have published articles or broadcast programmes.
     
    Upon the successful completion of the workshop, participants will be given certificates issued by PAHO – Barbados OECS office, UNAIDS and MISOPLWHA. Transportation monies for participants will be reimbursed. Two journalists will be elected to attend various regional and or international conferences on behalf of MISOPLWHA.
     
    Mid morning and afternoon snacks along with lunches will be provided to participants along with all the required stationeries for the workshop.
