bMobile customers can do more with their phones with enhanced GPRS/MMS data services

Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis – Cable & Wireless bMobile announced an upgrade to its GPRS mobile services today. GPRS allows bMobile customers to check email, chat with friends, browse the latest news, download pictures, ringtones and so much more, all on their GPRS and WAP enabled bMobile handset.
From the inception of the application some two years ago, bMobile customers have enjoyed a host of exciting and entertaining mobile internet services free of charge. Over the last few months the exclusive bMobile WAP portal has been completely transformed into what users now see – bMobile BUZZ. Typically users would only pay for exclusive content including ringtones from top bMobile music artistes, games and related pictures. As of October 3rd bMobile customers will benefit from a further upgrade which will result in increased functionality and a larger ringtone, picture and video library. This re-launch will also unveil MMS (Multi-media messaging) which will allow bMobile customers to download or create and send their favourite pictures to bMobile handsets in the same way one would usually send a text message.
The company has embarked on a campaign called “Say Yes” which allows bMobile subscribers to enjoy the benefits of these enhanced services. bMobile customers will receive a text message requesting acceptance of ‘FREE phone settings for mobile media’. Customers will need to “Say Yes” to get access to the new bMobile BUZZ for both prepaid and post paid services. This new ‘Over-the-air’ or ‘PUSH’ technology will not require the customer to come into a bMobile outlet to upgrade the handset, instead the process is fully automatic for GPRS enabled phones once the customer responds affirmatively to the text message. Customers can also request settings by sending a text message to the short code 8888 using the keyword “ALL”.
Speaking on the service upgrade VP Mobile and Consumer Sales, Mr. David Lake stated, “we are pleased to offer a world-class value added service to our customers. Once the customer responds favourably to the text message and gets the new ‘bMobile BUZZ’ they can start expressing themselves in all kinds of new cool ways with their bMobile phone!”
With the improved service, from October 8 browsing on the bMobile BUZZ WAP portal will remain free, however off-portal browsing will be billed at .01c per kB. Sending a multi-media message or picture message will cost .50c per message and incoming messages will be free of charge.

1. GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) - A packet-based wireless communication service with data rates from 56kpbs to 114 kpbs and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. A typical ring tone is sized at 250kB.
2. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) - A standard for providing cellular phones, pagers and other handheld devices with secure access to e-mail and text-based Web pages.
