Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, July 27th 2011 - LIME’s Old Phone contest organised in celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17 this year, unearthed an array of antique pieces.

Take the winning photo submitted by Mr Everton Delaney.  Although the phone bears no visible manufacturer’s label, it looks aged from a mile away.  Estimated to be about a hundred years old, the photo of this phone won from some fifty-five other entries submitted by customers in St. Kitts & Nevis.

The competition which ran for a little under a month had as one of its aims to highlight the evolution of the industry and how telephone equipment has evolved with it over the years.

When LIME’s Corporate Communications and Marketing Managers visited the home to see the physical instrument at his grandfather’s residence, they were also given a lesson on telecommunications services over the last six decades.  Mr Delaney’s grandfather, who prefers to be unnamed, shared some very interesting experiences dating back several decades.  He explained that the old phone had been passed down through at least three generations of his family, but could not recall if he ever saw it worked.

“I would have never imagined that our customers still had these types of phones in their possession,” observed Corporate Communications Manager, Laverne Caines.  “This contest was really a flash back to the past and placed into perspective how far we have come in the telecommunications business,” she concluded.

For his prize, Mr Delaney won himself a BB 9780 valued at nearly EC$2,000.  He was all smiles when he collected this popular data phone from LIME’s Corporate Communications Manager, Laverne Caines.  He said that he too was always fascinated by old phones and jumped on the chance to participate in the competition the moment it was announced.  A first time blackberry user, he proceeded immediately to sign up for a package to experience the exciting world of data communications.

Overall, the competition which ran simultaneously in most of the other LIME businesses in the region attracted over seven hundred (700) entries.
