‘Wuk up in a Frenzy’ for Culturama 2011

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JULIA SMITHEN, a.k.a. Dazzling Eyes, is turning things up with her first soca release for Culturama called ‘Wuk up in a Frenzy’.

Originally from St. Kitts but works as a police officer in Nevis, Smithen said that although the song is her first release, it is not her first time singing as she has won several karaoke competitions and sang at concerts as well as at functions organised by her place of employ.

Smithen said she had penned the catchy tune while the rhythm was done by Swaine Evelyn of X-zibit Band and recorded at his Nevis-based studio.

“The riddim is called Tigga Riddim. And after working in so many clubs as a police officer I see the way Kittitians and Nevisians ladies dance when our bands are playing, so that itself inspired me to write the song,” she said.

According to Smithen, ‘Wuk up in a Frenzy’ has also received great reviews and feedback, especially when the song was posted on Facebook.

Smithen said she is hoping that the song does well during Culturama.

“Yes, it will be a regular for not only Culturama but for other festival activities here and abroad. It has been given tremendous feedback when I posted the song on Facebook, with over 100 likes and almost 200 comments from friends and people I don't even know,” she said.

Smithen said she has also received positive feedback from band members in the Federation and had done numerous interviews promoting the song on radio stations such as ZIZ and Choice FM.

“The reason why I decided to even publish the song is because I realised that local artistes are now being promoted more and receiving support,” she said.

Smithen added she is also looking for ladies who are not shy to be a part of her music video shoot scheduled to start in September 2011.

Tru Capo will be producing the video.

She thanked everyone for their support and encouragement and said that very soon she would be releasing a reggae track entitled ‘I'm still in love with you’, and plans to follow that with a music video.
