Four years for Red Bull thief

RED BULL THIEF: Cavin Grant
By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A local businessman has expressed relief and satisfaction now that the individual who was responsible for committing repeated break-ins at his downtown Basseterre establishment was thrown in the slammer.

‘Big Cheese’, legally known at Cavin Grant of Irishtown, Bay Road, appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 26) on two counts of larceny, both perpetrated at Warren Bradshaw’s business establishment, ‘Bradshaw’s Centre of Attraction’ (BCA), located at Central Street.

Grant was accused of illegally entering Bradshaw’s premises sometime between March 28-29, 2011 and heisting a case of Red Bull, one case of Sutter Home White Wine, one case of Ting and four bottles of Wild Irish Red Wine, among other items.

The Irishtown man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with that incident. However, shortly after being granted bail, he reverted to his old ways and he struck again on May 15, 2011.

Grant illegally gained access to BCA and was successful in removing a case of beer.

SKNVibes understands that regarding the first offence, Grant was formally arrested and charged after a search warrant was executed at his home and a number of items including a Shutter wine bottle and a Wild Irish Red Wine bottle were discovered.

This publication also understands that the stolen items were fitted with a special mark which the proprietor had used as a means of identifying his items.

Having been brought before Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe, Grant pleaded guilty to both counts and was sentenced to serve two years at Her Majesty’s Prison on the first count and two years on the latter.

Both sentences are to run consecutively.

In an exclusive interview with this publication, Bradshaw explained that Grant had broken into his business premises on several occasions over a period of time.

He said his losses totalled in excess of $10 000 which include more than 150 cases of bottled beverages.

“I am celebrating now. I am feeling happy because he got a four-year sentence. I must say thanks to the police and those who assisted in helping me get justice.”

Bradshaw also informed this publication that the Chief Magistrate had imposed a life-long ban on Grant, which stipulates that he is not to be found near any business entity owned by Bradshaw.

A repeat offender, Grant was previously convicted of illegal gun possession, possession of drugs, larceny and carrying abroad an offensive weapon.
