BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOOTBALL enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend as the first-ever midnight game will be played at the Newtown Playfield as part of the Nagico Insurance Football League.
The event – which will take place on Saturday (July 30) – promises to be a night filled with action as well as entertainment from some of the most popular local artistes.
According to the organiser, Don ‘Dango’ Farrell, the event officially begins at 4:00 p.m. with a game between an Under-17 team from St. Maarten and the Newtown Academy Under-17 team.
That match will be followed by two others; one at 6:00 p.m. between Pasture Boys and Shottaz, and the other between Round d Field Ballers and South Side at 8:00 p.m.
Farrell told SKNVibes that after the conclusion of the 8:00 game, patrons would be entertained by Nicha B, Treasure and Infamus until 11:00p.m. when Nu Vybes Band Intl. would hit the stage until the midnight game begins.
That match – the featured game of the evening – will see Lock It, last year’s League First Runner-up, battling against the champions, Fluffy, in an attempt to dethrone them.
The evening’s entertain will peak following the midnight game with a return of the Nu Vybes Band Intl. until approximately 3:30 a.m. when the event concludes.
Asked about the birthing of the idea of hosting a midnight football game, Farrell said it was his inspiration, and after receiving positive feedback he thought it would be a good idea to inject entertainment elements in the event.
“It’s a big holiday weekend and it is not everybody who will journey over to Nevis. And because the league is on, I decided to bring something different to the table. So I decided that we should try a little midnight football game. The response has been very, very encouraging and people have welcomed it. I decided that since we got so much response from the public, we thought it best to put a bit of entertainment to keep the fans around while everyone awaits the featured for the evening.”
